CDR Walton is a native of San Diego, CA. He was commissioned in 1996 from the United States Naval Academy. He initially served on USS Tarawa (LHA-1), and deployed in support of Operation EPIC MANTLE in 1998. Additionally, he served as the Operations Officer onboard (USS Sentry (MCM-1). CDR Walton transitioned to the Reserve Component in 2003.

His command tours include NR Beachmaster Unit Two Det Kansas City and he is currently in command of NR Naval Beach Group Two.

CDR Walton's non-command reserve assignments include Assistant Operations Officer in C3F JFMCC DET Las Vegas, and ·Executive Officer PHIBRON Two Det Indianapolis, and the N5 for NR USPACOM Det 301.

During his reserve career CDR Walton has been mobilized in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and directly supported Counter Piracy Missions in CENTCOM AOR. He further distinguished himself while serving as a planner during the Maersk Alabama Piracy event.

CDR Walton completed NRAMS (Navy Reserve Advanced Management Seminar), NRUM (Navy Reserve Unit Management), the Reserve Component National Security Course (RCNSC), and JPME (Joint Professional Military Education) Phase I from the Naval War College. Most recently, CDR Walton completed his MBA from the University of Phoenix Executive MBA Program. His personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards), and the Navy Achievement Medal (3 Awards). During Fiscal Year 2010, CDR Walton was selected to support the Reserve Officer Foreign Exchange Officer Program where he was embedded with German Special Forces Units.
