CDR Brand was born in Fort Benning Georgia and raised as an Army Dependant at various Infantry and Special Forces Bases throughout the United States. He enlisted in the Navy in 1984 and served on the Special Projects Submarine USS Richard B Russell, Naval Submarine Training Center Pacific, and the USS William H Bates. He was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1994. He received his commission from the Jacksonville University NROTC in 1996 while earning his bachelors degree in Computer Science from the University of North Florida.

His first commissioned tour of duty was aboard USS VICKSBURG (CG-69), where he served as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer during which he completed a Fifth Fleet deployment with the USS JOHN F KENNEDY BATGRU in 1997. His Second Division Officer tour was in USS BOONE as the AUXO and ELECT-O combined. BOONE completed two CNT deployments during his tour.

His first shore duty assignment was to Fleet Technical Support Center Det Mayport. While on Shore duty he completed his Master Degree in Computer Science from the University of North Florida.

In January 2004, CDR Brand reported to USS SAMUEL B ROBERTS (FFG-58) and served as the Combat Systems Officer. In June 2005, CDR Brand was assigned to COMDESRON TWO FOUR as the N5, Combat Systems Training and Readiness. During this tour he completed his Joint Professional Military Education (JPME I) through the Fleet Seminar and US Naval War College CD based Programs.

In June 2007, CDR Brand reported to the FFG CLASSRON as the N8 Metrics and Requirements Dept Head. While there he was selected for an Individual Augementee assignment to Baghdad Iraq as an Electronics Warfare Officer embedded in the 45th and 50th Integrated Brigade Combat Team assigned as the Joint Area Support Group -Central for the US Embassy, Baghdad.

He has served as the Executive Officer for three years on the USS JOHN L HALL (FFG 32) and the USS NICHOLAS (FFG 47) for 3 months of a SOUTHCOM deployment.

CDR Brand recently graduate from the NAVAL WAR COLLEGE (Senior) and earned a second master’s Degree in National Security Strategies and JPMA Phase II.

CDR Brand’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Navy Commendation Medal(four awards); Navy Achievement Medal(four awards), Good Conduct Award and various unit and service awards.
