Master Chief John T. Lawry is a native of East Moline, Illinois.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June of 1988.  Following Basic Training at Great Lakes Recruit Training Command he graduated from Postal Clerk "A" School at FT. BENJAMIN HARRISON, Indiana, and was assigned to Naval Air Station Sigonella.

In 1990 he transferred to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) Seven and deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation DESERT SHIELD.  He served with NMCB-7 until 1992, when he transferred to Naval Station Rodman (Panama).

From 1995 to 1997 he served aboard USS JOHN L. HALL (FFG 32).  Following his tour on JOHN L. HALL, he was assigned tours at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia, and Naval Station Naples, Italy.

Master Chief Lawry served as the S-12 Division LCPO on board USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER   (CVN 69) from 2003-2005 before transferring to FISC Sigonella where he served as the Regional Senior Enlisted Leader.

He served as Command Master Chief of USS MCINERNEY (FFG 8) from February of 2008 until the ship's decommissioning in August of 2010.  From September of 2010 to May of 2013 Master Chief Lawry served as Command Master Chief for Naval Base Guam.

He is currently the Command Master Chief of USS ANZIO (CG 68) home ported in Norfolk, Virginia.

Master Chief Lawry graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy in 2006 and the CMC/COB Course in 2008.  He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from Colombia Southern University.

His personal awards include the Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
