Master Chief Linton was born in Okinawa, Japan. A native of Cicero, NY, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July 1987. He attended recruit training at Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, IL, followed by Basic Enlisted Submarine School in Groton, CT.

Master Chief Linton’s prior sea duty tours include USS JOHN ADAMS (SSBN 620)(BLUE), USS JAMES MONROE (SSBN 622)(BLUE), USS MARIANO G. VALLEJO (SSBN 658)(GOLD), FBM Operational Test Support Unit TWO (two tours), USS KAMEHAMEHA (SSN 642), USS HAMPTON (SSN 767), and USS MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL (SSN 708). He was advanced to Chief Petty Officer, Senior Chief Petty Officer, and Master Chief Petty Officer all on sea duty. It was during his second tour in FBM Operational Test Support Unit TWO where he first served as Command Master Chief.

His shore tours include the staffs of Commander, Submarine Group TWO, Groton, CT; Director of Naval Nuclear Propulsion, Washington, DC; Submarine Training Facility, Norfolk, VA; and Commander, Submarine Forces Atlantic, Norfolk, VA. While at COMSUBLANT he served as the Staff Command Master Chief and Submarine Force Career Counselor.

In January 2010 Master Chief Linton was selected for the Command Master Chief program and attended the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 61), Fort Bliss, TX, and is a graduate of Navy Command Leadership School COB/CMC Course, Class 91, Newport, RI. Master Chief Linton reported to USS MONTEREY (CG 61), Norfolk, VA, in November 2011 as the Command Master Chief.

Master Chief Linton is entitled to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Submarine Warfare breast insignias, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various other unit, service, and marksmanship awards. He has an Associate of Science Degree in Administrative/Management Studies and a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Business and Management.
