Captain Dean Rawls
Captain Rawls is a native of Lafayette, Louisiana and received his commission from Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. His operational assignments include USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) where he served as the Reactor Auxiliaries Officer, Reactor Laboratories Officer, and Chemistry/Radiological Controls Assistant. Following his tour on ROOSEVELT, he was the Coastal Detachment Officer In Charge and subsequently served as the Operations Officer at SPECIAL BOAT UNIT 26, forward deployed to Rodman Naval Station, Republic of Panama. His department head tours were Combat Systems Officer on USS DEYO (DD 989) and Reactor Training Assistant on USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75). He served as Executive Officer on USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53) and, as part of COMNAVSURFOR’s DDG Sea Swap Initiative, he also served as Executive Officer on USS HIGGINS (DDG 76). He served as the Commanding Officer of USS VANDEGRIFT (FFG 48) and deployed in support of Joint Task Force 515. His last operational tour was Reactor Officer on USS HARRY S. TRUMAN.
His shore assignments include the Atlantic Fleet, Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board; U.S. Naval Forces Central Command; and Office of the Secretary of Defense, Program Analysis and Evaluation.
Captain Rawls has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and a Masters in Business Administration from the College of William and Mary, Graduate School of Business.
Personal awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
