Commander Robert “Robbie” L. Underhill
A native of Richmond, VA, Commander Robert Underhill attended the United States Naval Academy, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a minor in German. Upon commissioning, he reported to Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, RI. He currently serves as Executive Officer in USS LEYTE GULF (CG 55). Previous sea duty assignments include Operations Officer onboard USS KLAKRING (FFG 42), Navigator onboard USS SAMUEL ELIOT MORISON (FFG 13) and USS ESTOCIN (FFG 15), and Electrical Officer onboard USS VICKSBURG (CG 69).
CDR Underhill most recently served ashore as the Requirements and Action Officer for Destroyer and Cruiser Modernization within OPNAV N96. Previous shore duty assignments include Exercise Officer (N7) at Destroyer Squadron 40, Executive and Administrative Officer for Navy Cargo Handling Battalion 11, and Executive Officer at Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center, Jacksonville, FL. While on shore duty he completed a Masters degree in Business Administration.
Commander Underhill’s decorations and awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), Meritorious Unit Commendation (two awards).
