Captain John F.G. Wade
Deputy Commodore

Captain John Wade is a native of Port Washington, New York. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1990 with a B.S. in Economics.

A Surface Warfare Officer, Captain Wade has served on several destroyers, cruisers and patrol craft in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. Throughout his career he has completed multiple deployments and supported numerous operations including Operations Desert Storm, Southern Watch, Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom.

Captain Wade has had three operational commands.

He served as the Commanding Officer of the Patrol Craft, USS FIREBOLT (PC 10). During the tour, FIREBOLT deployed to the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific in support of theater contingency plans and counter narcotic operations. FIREBOLT earned the coveted Battle Efficiency Award for superior combat and material readiness.

Captain Wade served with the Army’s 10th Mountain and 82nd Airborne Divisions in Afghanistan as Commanding Officer of a Joint / Interagency Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT). Wade and his team trained Afghan Security Forces; trained and mentored Afghan Government Officials; and, facilitated reconstruction and development of the Afghan infrastructure and economy. The team received the Army Meritorious Unit Commendation Award for their contributions in a combat zone.

Most recently Captain Wade commanded USS PREBLE (DDG 88). PREBLE deployed to the Western Pacific to protect vital interests in the region, promote regional stability, and strengthen existing and emerging alliances and partnerships. PREBLE earned the Battle Efficiency Award.

Ashore, Captain Wade served as a Special Assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations and Executive Assistant to the Director of the Navy Quadrennial Defense Review Team. He earned a M.S. in Information Systems Technology from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California and a M.S. in National Security Strategy from the National War College in Washington D.C. He most recently served as the Deputy Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Captain Wade currently serves as the Deputy Commander of Destroyer Squadron 28 in Norfolk, Virginia.

Personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Army Combat Action Badge, and various meritorious, service and campaign awards. He is also the recipient of the Vice Admiral E.C. Waller and Vice Admiral John D. Bulkeley Leadership Awards.
