Captain Jennifer S. Couture
A native of Vineland, New Jersey, CAPT Jennifer Couture was commissioned through the NROTC program at The George Washington University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations.
At sea, CAPT Couture served as a Division Officer in USS WASP (LHD 1), as Fire Control Officer and USS SAIPAN (LHA 2), as Auxiliaries Officer where she earned her Surface Warfare Officer qualification. As a Department Head, CAPT Couture served in USS ELROD (FFG 55), as Combat Systems Officer, and in USS LEYTE GULF
(CG 55), as Operations Officer. USS LEYTE GULF deployed to the Northern Arabian Gulf as the Air Defense Commander for the ENTERPRISE Carrier Strike Group. She served as Executive Officer, USS PORTER (DDG 78), and Commanding Officer, USS KAUFFMAN (FFG 59). She has deployed in support of Operations JOINT ENDEAVOR, ACTIVE ENDEAVOR, IRAQI FREEDOM, and ENDURING FREEDOM.
While ashore, CAPT Couture served as Current Surface Operations Officer for the Commander, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, Flag Secretary to the Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic, Contingency Plans Officer, U.S. Joint Forces Command, and Assistant Chief of Staff for Manning, Manpower and Personnel (N1) for the Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic. She earned her Master of Arts degree in International Studies at Old Dominion University (2004), and completed her Joint Professional Military Education as a student of the Naval War College (2006) and the Joint Forces Staff College (2010). After assignment as a Federal Executive Fellow at the Center for a New American Security (2015), she served as Special Assistant for Legislative Matters to the Chief of Naval Personnel.
CAPT Couture’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3), Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5), and the Joint Service Achievement Medal.
