Captain Richard D. Brawley

CAPT Richard Brawley is a native of Dallas, Texas and a graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in history in 1991. He received a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2002.

Operationally, CAPT Brawley has served on numerous ships in the Atlantic Fleet including Ordnance Officer on USS VIRGINIA (CGN-38), Plankowner and Navigator on USS LABOON (DDG 58), Operations Officer on USS RAMAGE (DDG 61) and Combat Systems Officer on USS NORMANDY (CG 60). CAPT Brawley served as the Commanding Officer of USS PATRIOT (MCM 7) out of Sasebo, Japan and USS NITZE (DDG 94) out of Norfolk, Va. His also served as the Surface Operations Officer (N31) for Carrier Strike Group TWELVE where he participated in the historic final deployments of USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65).

Ashore, CAPT Brawley has served as an instructor at Surface Warfare Officer School and as a Division Head at Surface Warfare Development Group (SWDG). During this time at SWDG, CAPT Brawley participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom while serving with Cruiser-Destroyer Group Eight. His last shore assignment was as a Senior Emergency Actions Officer for Operation Team 1 (OT-1) on the Joint Staff.

CAPT Brawley’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Achievement Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal.
