Captain Dan Voth

A San Diego native, Captain Voth was commissioned in 1988 through Officer Candidate School in Newport Rhode Island and completed initial Surface Warfare Officer training at the Navy Amphibious Base Coronado in 1989.

Sea duty assignments include his initial Division Officer tour in USS FORT FISHER (LSD 40) where he served in Operations and Engineering Departments from May 1989 to July 1992. May 1995 to October 1996, he served as Engineer Officer aboard USS THACH (FFG 43) homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. CAPT Voth’s first afloat Command was USS FIREBOLT (PC 10) from February 1997 to February 1999 where he completed deployments to Southern and European theaters participating in a variety of operations supporting U.S. Special Operations Command including BLUE PRIVATEER and SHADOW EXPRESS. From July 2002 to June 2004 he Commanded USS CARDINAL (MHC 60) homeported in Manama, Bahrain. While Commanding CARDINAL he participated in mine countermeasures operations in the Khawr Abd Allah and Khawr Abd Zubair Waterways in Iraq during the beginning months of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. From May 2007 to November 2008, CAPT Voth Commanded USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51). While deployed to Fifth Fleet in ARLEIGH BURKE, CAPT Voth was assigned duties as Commander Task Group 150.1 conducting counter piracy operations and hostage negotiations in Somalia.

Ashore, CAPT Voth served as an engineering and material readiness instructor at Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport Rhode Island from August 1992 to August 1994. In April 1999 he reported to Navy Warfare Development Command’s Doctrine Department as the Surface Warfare Action Officer. In November 2000 he commenced studies at the Naval War College, graduating in November 2001. From July 2004 to June 2006 CAPT Voth was assigned as the Branch head for Homeland Defense Plans, U.S. Northern Command in Colorado Springs. From January 2008 to September 2010 CAPT Voth served as the Executive Assistant to Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic in Norfolk VA. In March 2011 he reported as Deputy Commander of Destroyer Squadron 28, assuming Command in May 2012.

CAPT Voth holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from San Diego State University and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.

Captain Voth’s personal awards include the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, four Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy Commendation Medals, three Navy Achievement Medals, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
