CAPT Tom Moninger
Captain Tom Moninger is from Williamsburg, Virginia and earned his commission from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1994. A nuclear-trained Surface Warfare Officer, he served tours in USS Mitscher (DDG 57), USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), USS Thorn (DD 988), USS George Washington (CVN 73), and USS Princeton (CG 59). In command, he led USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) on deployment to the 6th Fleet and through a mid-life Ballistic Missile Defense modernization. More recently, he served as Reactor Officer in USS Theodore Roosevelt as the ship completed a round- the-world deployment and homeport shift.
Ashore, Captain Moninger worked in staff assignments at Naval Air Forces Atlantic, the J5/Iraq Division of the Joint Staff, and Naval Surface Forces Atlantic. He earned advanced degrees in National Security Studies from the University of Maryland and the Naval War College.
A Joint Qualified Officer, Captain Moninger's personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), the Navy Commendation (five awards), and the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards) in addition to various unit citations and campaign awards.
