Captain Robert W. Bodvake graduated from Norwich University in 1990 with a B.S. in Geology, and was commissioned through NROTC. Additionally, in 2006 he earned a degree in National Resource Strategy from National Defense University, Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

Afloat assignments include Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and Electronics Material Officer in USS LEWIS B PULLER (FFG 23), Communications Officer in USS SHILOH (CG 67), and Operations and Executive Officer in USS ZEPHYR (PC 8). His Department Head tour was in USS BARRY (DDG 52) as Weapons and Combat Systems Officer. He was assigned to COMSIXTHFLT staff as TLAM Targeting Officer and Theater Ballistic Missile Defense Officer. He served as Executive Officer in USS WINSTON S. CHURCHILL (DDG 81), and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from Jan-May 2003. He commanded USS MOMSEN (DDG 92) from October 2008 to July 2010.

Ashore, he was an instructor at Surface Warfare Officer School, Division Officer Course in Newport, R.I. Post-XO he served at OPNAV N70 (Analysis, Programming and Integration) as Fires and Maneuver Analyst, and as Executive Assistant to OPNAV N7F (Director for Warfare Integration). After graduation from National Defense University / Industrial College of the Armed Forces, he was assigned to the Joint Staff, J8, Joint Theater Air and Missile Defense Organization. He served as an IA to a Joint Special Operations Task Force in Afghanistan in 2007-2008. He was assigned to Surface Warfare Officers School in Newport, RI as the Director, Command At Sea Training from July 2010 to January 2013.
