Captain Anthony L. Simmons

Captain (CAPT) Anthony (Tony) L. Simmons hails from Goodwater, Alabama where he graduated from Goodwater High School in 1985 as Valedictorian. He attended Austin Peay State University, Clarksville, TN on a football scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering (Robotics) in August 1989. He was commissioned through Officer Candidate School (OCS) Newport, Rhode Island in June 1990.

CAPT Simmons’ sea duty assignments include tours in USS LASSEN (DDG 82) as Commanding Officer, USS CHAFEE (DDG 90) as commissioning Executive Officer; USS HURRICANE (PC 3) as Commanding Officer; USS CARON (DD 970) as Engineer Officer; USS GETTYSBURG (CG 64) as Damage Control Assistant and USS MANITOWOC (LST 1180) as Auxiliaries Division Officer and Combat Information Center Officer.

CAPT Simmons’ shore duty assignments include Chief of Naval Operations Staff in Surface Warfare Division (N96), Assessment Division (N81), QDR and Naval Warfare and Integration Group (N00X), Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, J-8 Directorate, Joint Integrated Air and Missile Defense Organization (JIAMDO), and Bureau of Navy Personnel (Pers-41).

CAPT Simmons graduated from Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California with a Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in March 1997, and from Air Command and Staff College at Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama with a Master of Art Degree in Military Arts and Science in June 2002.

CAPT Simmons’ personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal (with four gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with one gold star), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with two gold stars) and various campaign and service medals and ribbons. He has been awarded Southwest Asia Service Medal (with two bronze stars), Kuwait Liberation Medals (Kuwait and Saudi Arabia), and various other service medals and ribbons.
