Captain Sean Anderson
An Eau Claire, Wisconsin native, Captain Sean was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at the University of Wisconsin and completed initial Surface Warfare Officer training in Newport, RI in 1994.
Sea duty assignments include his Division Officer tours in USS CARNEY (DDG 64) where he served as the commissioning Auxiliaries Officer and later as the Combat Information Center Officer from November 1994 to April 1998. He reported to USS RODNEY M. DAVIS (FFG 60) in Everett, Washington as Operations Officer from May 2002 to February 2004, participating in a nine month battle group deployment to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF) / ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF). From March 2004 through December 2005, he served as USS KEARSARGE’s (LHD 3) Assistant Operations Officer and Training & Readiness Officer, making a surge deployment in the summer of 2004 and a deployment in 2005 in support of the global war on terrorism, OIF and OEF. While deployed in May 2005, he served as USS KAUFFMAN’s (FFG 59) Executive Officer, covering an unexpected position gap. In April 2008, CAPT Anderson reported to USS NITZE (DDG 94) as Executive Officer, helping lead the ship through an Arabian Gulf deployment in support of OIF/OEF, two training cycles, Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) preparations, and a Selected Restricted Availability before detaching in June 2010. He commanded Battle E winner USS BULKELEY (DDG 84) from March 2011 to October 2012, leading her through a FIFTH Fleet counter piracy deployment, a training cycle and a docking availability. CAPT Anderson reported to Carrier Strike Group FOUR in January 2014 and is the Assistant Chief of Staff for Training and Assessments.
Ashore, CAPT Anderson served as Operations Officer from May 1998 to October 2001 at Tactical Support Center Sigonella, Sicily, Italy where he planned NATO Maritime Patrol Reconnaissance Aircraft armed Adriatic Sea sorties and U.S. P-3C strike missions in support of Operation ALLIED FORCE. He reported to COMNAVSURFLANT in January 2006, performing duties as CNSF’s Hot Wash Manager and CNSL’s Casualty Report (CASREP) Coordinator and Systems Cannibalization Manager before serving as Flag Aide to Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic. From November 2012 to January 2014, he served as U.S. Fleet Forces Fleet Command Center Director (N31) and Executive Assistant to the Director of Maritime Operations .
CAPT Anderson holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Industrial Engineering, Statistics and Naval Science and a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin.
His individual awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards) and the Combat Action Ribbon.
