ISC (SW/IDW/AW) John P. Steel, USN
Senior Enlisted Leader
Chief Steel is a native of New Mexico, and joined the Navy in August 2001. After graduating from Recruit Training Command, he attended the Intelligence Specialist "A" school in Virginia Beach, Virginia, graduating at the top of his class.
Chief Steel reported to his first assignment at Joint Intelligence Center Pacific (JICPAC) in February 2002, where he worked as analyst on the operational watch floor. He voluteered for a six-month Individual Augmentation (IA) deployment in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, deploying to Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force Afghanistan.
in 2005, Chief Steel reported to USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), where he was assigned as SUPPLOT Work Center Supervisor, completing one deployment in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and one surge deployment in support of U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM) national tasking.
Upon successful completion of his three-year sea tour, Chief Steel reported to Molesworth, England, where he assisted in the stand-up of U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM). During his three year tour, he served as Maritime Division Leading Petty Officer (LCPO) and was selected as USAFRICOM Sailor of the Year for 2009. Once selected for Chief Petty Officer in 2010, he served as the Department LCPO for the North/West Africa Divisions as well as the Command's Navy Element Senior Enlisted Advisor.
In September 2011, Chief Steel reported to Carrier Strike Group EIGHT, at the time embarked on USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69), and assumed duties as N2 LCPO. Currently, he is also serving as Command's Senior Enlisted Leader.
Chief's Steel's personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achivement Medal (two awards), and Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal.
