Command Master Chief, Afloat Training Group Mayport
BMCM(SW/AW) Junior L. Ashwood enlisted the United States Navy and reported to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois for his recruit training in July 1988. Immediately following his pass and review, he attended apprenticeship training for basic seamanship.
In November 1988, Master Chief Ashwood reported to the USS Platte (AO 186) for duty that was already on deployment in the Mediterranean. After a successful tour onboard the USS Platte and gaining the rank of second class, in May of 1992, his next tour was at Coastal System Station, Panama City, FL. With shore duty completed, Master Chief in 1995took on the challenge of Navy Cargo Handling and Port group in Williamsburg, VA.
In January 2000, Master Chief Ashwood reported to USS Oak Hill (LSD 51) as a first class petty officer and eventually being selected to Chief Petty Officer during this tour.
In July 2003, Master Chief Ashwood took on the following tours: CHB-1 Williamsburg VA (2003-2007), United States Naval Academy (2007-2010) as the Fleet Return Liaison, USS McCampbell (DDG 85) Yokosuka, Japan (2010-2012) and USS Bataan (LHD 5) Norfolk, VA (2012-2014). In 2015 he assumed his present position as CMC of Afloat Training Group, Mayport, FL.
Master Chief Ashwood is a graduate of the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy. He is qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and Master Training Specialist. Personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (four awards), and various unit, campaign and service awards.
