Command Master Chief, Afloat Training Group Mayport
Master Chief Fire Controlman, Surface Warfare, John V. Miller graduated from Baptist High School in Caguas, Puerto Rico. He enlisted in the Navy in 1991, and attended Boot Camp in Great Lakes, Illinois.
His sea-duty assignments include: USS GUAM (LPH 9), USS THOMAS S. GATES (CG 51), USS McFAUL (DDG 74) home ported in Norfolk Virginia, USS VALLEY FORGE (CG 50) and USS PREBLE (DDG 88) both home ported in San Diego California; PRECOMM/USS JASON DUNHAM (DDG 109) built in Bath, Maine and home ported in Norfolk, Virginia.
His shore duty assignments include: Naval Recruiting District and Naval Reserve Center Miami, Florida.
He assumed his current position in August 2012 as the Lead Combat Systems Trainer/Assessor for Afloat Training Group, Mayport. He assumed the duties as Command Master Chief in January 2014.
Master Chief Miller is a veteran of 8 oversea deployments; including participation in OPERATION DESERT SHIELD/STORM, OPERATION RESTORE HOPE, OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH, OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, OPERATION NOBLE EAGLE and OPERATION ASSURE DELIVERY, as well as three Drug Enforcement Operations.
His personal awards include the two Navy Commendation Medals, seven Navy Achievement Medals and numerous other personal and campaign awards.
