CDR Jason Brandt
CDR Jason Brandt is a native of Santa Rosa, California. He graduated With Merit from the United States Naval Academy in 1995 where he received a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering and his commission.
After commissioning, CDR Brandt reported aboard USS CROMMELIN (FFG 37) serving as Damage Control Assistant and Main Propulsion Assistant and completed a Persian Gulf deployment. CDR Brandt then reported to the 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment as a Naval Gunfire Liaison Officer where he augmented Marine staffs at the battalion, regiment, and force level.
In November 1999, CDR Brandt reported to the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, San Diego, for duty as Deputy Program Manager for Naval Fire Control System (NFCS) and liaison to the DD-21 Program Office (NAVSEA PMS-500). In June 2000, he was awarded first place in the annual U.S. Naval Institute Leadership Essay Contest and was published in Proceedings magazine. CDR Brandt graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School receiving a Master of Arts in National Security Affairs in September 2002 and was awarded the U.S. Naval Institute Award for writing the top thesis in his department.
Upon completion of Surface Warfare Department Head training, he reported aboard USS FITZGERALD (DDG 62) where he served as Chief Engineer and completed a Persian Gulf Deployment and homeport shift to Japan. CDR Brandt then reported as Chief Engineer for USS CHANCELLORSVILLE (CG 62) serving as KITTY HAWK Strike Group Air Defense Commander and through a hull swap with USS SHILOH (CG 67). Nominated by his peers and division officers, he won the CNSF 2005 Navy and Marine Corps Leadership Award for top Department Head leader in KITTY HAWK Strike Group. Following, CDR Brandt reported as Training and Readiness Officer for Carrier Strike Group SEVEN and deployed to the Western Pacific with RONALD REAGAN Strike Group in 2007 and 2008.
In August 2008, CDR Brandt began duties within the Surface Warfare Division of the OPNAV Staff as CG(X) Requirements Officer and later as DDG 51 Flight III Section Head. In June 2011, he graduated from the Naval War College receiving a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. In October 2011, CDR Brandt reported as Executive Officer to Assault Craft Unit TWO and during this tour also served in key leadership positions during three Naval Beach Group TWO Maritime Prepositioning Force exercises. He is scheduled to assume duties as Commanding Officer of Assault Craft Unit TWO in May 2013.
CDR Brandt personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He is married and has 2 daughters.
