UNDERSEA WARFARE is the professional magazine of the undersea warfare community. Its purpose is to educate its readers on undersea warfare missions and programs, with a particular focus on U.S. submarines. This journal will also draw upon the Submarine Forces rich historical legacy to instill a sense of pride and professionalism among community members and to enhance reader awareness of the increasing relevance of undersea warfare for our nations defense.

Petty Officer 3rd Class John A. Long of Homer City, Pennsylvania, raises a replica of the original Navy Jack aboard USS Minneapolis-St. Paul (SSN-708) during morning colors on 11 September 2002 to honor those lost in the attacks on America one year earlier.  By direction of the Secretary of the Navy, all U.S. ships will fly the Navy Jack in place of the Union Jack for the duration of the war on terrorism.
