Commander Jacoby is a native of Washington state and enlisted in the Navy in 1986. Upon completion of Cryptologic Maintenance Technician training in Pensacola, Florida, he was assigned to the Naval Security Group Activity, Azores, Portugal. In 1989 he was selected for the Enlisted Commissioning Program, attended the University of Washington, and received his commission in August 1994. In January 1995, he reported to primary flight training in Pensacola Florida and earned his “Wings of Gold” in November 1996.
Following training at the P-3 Fleet Replacement Squadron (VP-30) at NAS Jacksonville, Florida, he reported to Patrol Squadron FORTY SIX in August of 1997, based at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. While assigned to the “Grey Knights” he completed deployments to FIFTH and SEVENTH Fleet. During his tour, he held various positions within the squadron to include AIP/Maverick/SLAM Officer, Readiness Officer, Beartrap Officer Instructor, NFO Training Officer, and Assistant Training Officer.
Detaching from VP-46 in February 2001, he was selected to attend the first Maritime Weapons and Tactics Instructor School at Naval Strike Warfare Center in Fallon, Nevada and was designated as one of the first P-3C Weapons Tactics Instructors (WTI). Upon completion of training, he was assigned as an Instructor at Commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Force Pacific Weapons and Tactics Unit, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. During his tour at “WTU West”, he served as the Lead Strike Officer and detached multiple times to FIFTH Fleet in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
In May of 2003, he was next assigned as a Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer (Shooter) aboard the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72) home ported in Everett, Washington. During his tour on “Abe”, he completed a deployment to SEVENTH Fleet and participated in Operation UNIFIED ASSISTANCE in support of the tsunami relief effort off Indonesia. While onboard, he served as the V-4 Division Officer, V-2 Division Officer, Air Department Training Team Lead, and Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer Senior Instructor.
Following refresher training at VP-30 in Jacksonville, Florida, he reported in September 2005 to Patrol Squadron FORTY at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. While assigned to the “Fighting Marlins” for his Department Head tour, he deployed to SEVENTH Fleet in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM-PHILIPPINES and to FIFTH Fleet in support of Operations IRAQI and ENDURING FREEDOM. He served as the Tactics Officer, Safety/NATOPS Officer, Training Officer, Operations Officer, and CTG 57.2 Operations Officer.
In March 2008, he reported to United States Strategic Command, Joint Functional Component Command for Global Strike in Omaha, Nebraska. He served as the Branch Chief of the Engineering and Threat section of the Metrics and Assessments Division and as the Executive Assistant to the Commanding General.
In May 2011, he assumed the duties of Executive Officer of Naval Ocean Processing Facility Dam Neck, Virginia and fleeted up to Commanding Officer in May 2013.
Commander Jacoby’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (Strike/Flight), Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), and various campaign, service, and unit awards.
