Lt. Cmdr. Douglas A. Dreese
Executive Officer, PCU John Warner (SSN 785)
Lt. Cmdr. Dreese was born and raised in Harrisburg, PA. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear machinist's mate in 1994. Upon selection for the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program, he attended The Pennsylvania State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1999. After completing initial nuclear power and submarine training, he reported to USS Pennsylvania (SSBN 735)(BLUE) where he served as Electrical Assistant, Main Propulsion Assistant and Tactical Systems Assistant from December 2000 to November 2003. During his tour the ship completed four strategic deterrent patrols and was awarded the Submarine Squadron SIXTEEN Battle Efficiency “E”.
Following his initial sea tour, Lt. Cmdr. Dreese served as a Shift Engineer at the Nuclear Power Training Unit in Charleston, S.C. from December 2003 to December 2005. During his tour he earned a Masters of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University. Before returning to sea duty, Lt. Cmdr. Dreese served as a Reactor Dynamics and Core Characteristics Instructor and Class Director at the Naval Nuclear Power School from December 2005 to December 2006.
After completing the Submarine Officer’s Advanced Course, LCDR Dreese served as Navigator and Operations Officer on board USS Dallas (SSN 700) from June 2007 to October 2009. During his tour, the ship completed a combined USEUCOM and USCENTCOM deployment and a Pre-Inactivation Restricted Availability. Lt. Cmdr. Dreese was subsequently selected to serve as the initial Engineer Officer on board USS Mississippi (SSN 782) from November 2009 to March 2011. After his department head tours, Lt. Cmdr. Dreese attended the US Naval War College in Newport, RI, earning a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies and completing the Maritime Advanced Warfighting School operational planning program.
Lt. Cmdr. Dreese is currently the Executive Officer of USS John Warner (SSN 785). His personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (five awards) and the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards).
