History:
USS Springfield (SSN 761), built by the Electric Boat division of General Dynamics Corporation in Groton, Conn., is the 47th Los Angeles-class submarine delivered to the Navy. Since its commissioning in 1993, USS Springfield has been deployed to the Mediterranean Sea, Arabian Gulf, and the North Atlantic.
USS Springfield was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation in 1995. It has earned the COMSUBRON TWO Supply "E" (1994, 1995), the COMSUBRON TWO Medical "M" (1995 & 2003). The Damage Control "DC" (1996), the Engineering "E" (1997), Battle Efficiency "E" (2002), Navigation "N" (2002 & 2003), the Navy-wide Captain Edward F. Ney Memorial Food Service Award in 1998 and the Arleigh Burke Fleet Trophy (2002.)
