Lt. Cmdr. Michael Works
Naval Submarine Torpedo Facility Yorktown Executive Officer 
 
Lt. Cmdr. Michael Works is a Greenville, AL native who graduated from Greenville School in 1986. He enlisted in the Navy in September 1986 as a Torpedoman. Upon completion of recruit training he attended Torpedoman “A” school.

Works reported to USS Fulton (AS 11) in April of 1987, while aboard Fulton he was advanced to the rank of Third Class Petty Officer. Works left Fulton and reported to Labrador TWR-681 as Leading Torpedoman due to a personnel shortage. While onboard he participated in numerous at sea Mk 48 torpedo retrieval evolutions. In Oct 1989,Works reported to USS Canopus (AS 34), as Handling Team Leader he handled Mk 48/ADCAP torpedoes to SSBN submarines assigned to Kings Bay Submarine base. In Jun 1995 Works reported to USS L.Y. Spear (AS 36) as the Quality Assurance Leading Petty Officer. After L.Y. Spear’s decommission he reported to USS Kidd (DDG-993) as the Combat Acoustics Leading Petty Officer, while there he made two SOUTHCOM deployments as part of the drug interdiction group. In 1998 Works transferred to Navy Submarine Torpedo Facility where he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in 1999 and in 2001 he was commissioned as a Submarine Ordnance Limited Duty Officer.

Works reported to Naval Undersea Warfare Center in October 2001 as a Fleet Liaison Officer for Torpedo systems. In Nov 2003, Works reported to USS Seattle (AOE 3) as the Force Protection/Gunnery Officer. While assigned he deployed to the Gulf with the John F. Kennedy battle group to support the war on terrorism.  In Mar 2005 he reported to Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center as the Combat Systems Officer, he was responsible for the maintenance and repair of 688 class submarines home ported in Norfolk, Virginia. In August 2005, Works reported to Commander Submarine Force Atlantic as the Tactical Weapons Officer, where he was responsible for ordnance safety policy and training. Works reported for duty as the Executive Officer of Naval Submarine Torpedo Facility (NSTF) Yorktown in Oct 2011.

Works’ personal awards include Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation, Achievement, and Good Conduct Medals, and various unit awards.
