CDR Eugene (Doug) LaCoste entered the submarine service following graduation from the US Naval Academy in 1992. After completing initial training, he reported to USS BLUEFISH (SSN-675) in Charleston, SC, in November 1993, where he served as Electrical Assistant, Damage Control Assistant and Sonar Officer.
After serving on the staff of Destroyer Squadron Twenty-Two and as a watch officer in the Operations Center for Commander, Submarine Force Atlantic, Commander LaCoste reported to USS ALBANY (SSN-753) in Norfolk, VA, as Combat Systems Officer in December 1999. In February 2002, he transferred to USS MINNEAPOLIS-SAINT PAUL (SSN-708), where he served as Navigation/Operations Officer until July 2003.
Following a year at the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) in Fort Leavenworth, KS, Commander LaCoste reported to USS CHARLOTTE (SSN-766) in Pearl Harbor, HI, and served as Executive Officer from November 2004 to August 2006. Transferring from USS CHARLOTTE, he served as an Action Officer on the Joint Staff (J-5) in Washington, DC, from August 2006 to March 2009.
Before relieving as Commanding Officer of Navy Submarine Torpedo Facility, Yorktown in July 2011, he served as Deputy Commander for Training, Submarine Squadron Six from September 2009 to June 2011.
