USS Missouri Completes Successful Undocking

GROTON, Conn. – Virginia-class attack submarine USS Missouri (SSN 780) successfully undocked from Electric Boat, Aug. 12.

Missouri and its crew of 134 officers and enlisted personnel arrived at Electric Boat Jan. 25, 2011. Missouri is the seventh ship of the Virginia Class.

"The undocking is important because it represents not only a key event to our schedule but a key event in shifting our mindset back to being afloat. There is much more work to do between now and delivery,” said Cmdr. Timothy Rexrode, the commanding officer of Missouri.

While at Electric Boat, the sub underwent various maintenance work and several system upgrades.

The Virginia-class attack submarine is the fifth U.S. Navy ship named after the Show-Me State. The last U.S.S. Missouri was the battleship that hosted the Japanese surrender ceremony that ended World War Two.
