Dallas Crew Receives Special Treat from Namesake Supporters

GROTON, Conn. - The crew of USS Dallas (SSN 700) received a special treat from their namesake city June 18, when Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders and Dallas based law firm Shore Chan Bragalone DePumpo LLP brought gifts for the Los Angeles-class attack submarine.

Alfonso Chan, a former submariner and a member of the Dallas Navy League’s Board of Directors; his wife Sharon Chan; his daughter Gabriella; law firm associate Caroline Johnson; and, USS Dallas backer Lee Miller arrived to support and tour their submarine.

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Misty Duncan and Nicole Hamilton joined the cadre with their event coordinator, Jenna Bellheimer.

Cmdr. Rich Arnold, Dallas Commanding Officer, and Master Chief Electronics Technician Tomas Garcia, Chief of the Boat, led a tour of the submarine that highlighted the ship’s wardroom, crew’s mess and other hubs of entertainment.

Gabriella, a seventh-grader, gave the speech thanking the crew for their dedication in defending the country.

“Only the Navy’s best and brightest sailors serve on submarines like the USS Dallas,” she said. “On behalf of the City of Dallas and the Dallas Navy League, thank you USS Dallas!”

The ship’s crew assembled on the pier to thank the group for the donations, enjoy a catered lunch, and pass out welcome aboard packets and command coins.

After the speech, Duncan and Hamilton signed autographs for the Sailors and joined the crew for photographs.

Donations from the firm and local Dallas businesses helped get the crew flat screen TVs, monitors, and surround sound systems for entertainment in the crew’s mess. The ship will be decorated with a custom glass case for the crew’s Dolphins, new décor for the crew’s mess, and “USS Dallas” mugs.
