Senior Chief Erik S. Gemaly is a native of New Bedford, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the United States Navy in March 1996. He completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois. He completed Basic Enlisted Submarine School (BESS) and Sonar Technician “A” School in Groton, Conn.
He served several tours including those aboard USS LOUISIANA (SSBN 743) and USS LAJOLLA (SSN 701) as a member of Sonar Division. From January 2005 to January 2007, he served aboard USS PROVIDENCE (SSN 719) as the Sonar Division Leading Petty Officer. During this tour he was selected for advancement to Chief Petty Officer. While serving as the Sonar Division Leading Chief Petty Officer and Weapons Department Enlisted Advisor from January 2007 to January 2011 on board USS HARTFORD (SSN 768), he was selected for advancement Senior Chief Petty Officer.
His shore assignments include Recruiter-in-Charge, Navy Recruiting District New England and as Department Master Chief, Pipeline Technical Training Department at Naval Submarine School in Groton.
Senior Chief Gemaly has earned the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), the Good Conduct Medal (five awards) and various unit awards.
