Cmdr. Chris Williams, a native of Atlanta, Ga., graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1994, receiving a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and a commission as an Ensign.  Upon commissioning he completed initial nuclear power and submarine training before reporting to his first ship, the USS Maine (SSBN 741)(BLUE) in Kings Bay, Ga.
Aboard Maine he completed four strategic deterrent patrols and served in a variety of Division Officer billets, including Chemistry/Radiological Assistant, Communications Officer and Tactical Systems Officer.  After service aboard Maine he served ashore in Kings Bay as a Tactics Instructor at Trident Training Facility and as the Flag Lieutenant to Commander Submarine Group Ten.
After completion of the Submarine Officer Advanced Course, he reported for duty as Engineer Officer in USS Chicago (SSN 721).  On Chicago he completed one deployment to the Western Pacific that included several operations as part of the U.S. Seventh Fleet.  After duty aboard Chicago, Williams reported to The Pentagon where he was the Submarine Budget Analyst on the Staff of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management & Comptroller).
Following duty in The Pentagon he completed the Submarine Command Course and reported to the USS Michigan (SSGN 727) as Executive Officer.  While aboard, the ship completed nuclear reactor refueling and the conversion to employ guided missiles and special forces, including extensive post-overhaul testing and certification that culminated in the ship returning to service with two crews.  As the BLUE Crew Executive Officer he participated in Michigan's first remote port crew exchange. 
Following his Executive Officer tour, Commander Williams returned to The Pentagon to serve as the Submarine Program Analyst in the Programming Directorate on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV N80) followed by a year of studies at the National War College where he earned a Masters of Science in National Security Strategy with an emphasis on Latin American issues.

Williams is currently serving as Commanding Officer, USS Springfield (SSN 761).
