Cmdr. Daniel J. Lombardo
Cmdr. Lombardo, a native of Danbury, Conn., earned his commission for the United States Naval Academy in 1997 graduating with merit with a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering. He received a Master's of Engineering Management Degree from Old Dominion University in December 2004.
Following nuclear power training and the Submarine Basic Officer Course, he served as the Chemistry and Radiological Assistant on the BLUE crew of USS Florida (SSBN 728) from February 1998 until February 2001, completing four Strategic Deterrent Patrols.
In March of 2001, he reported to Nuclear Power Training Unit Ballston Spa, N.Y. as an instructor at the S8G Prototype. He served as Shift Engineer and Production Training Officer from March 2001 until March 2003.
From April 2003 to August 2004, he was an Intelligence Analyst in the Submarine Warfare and Operations Research Division (SWORD) at the Office of Naval Intelligence in Washington D.C.
Following Submarine Advanced Officer Course, he served as the Engineering Officer aboard USS Tucson (SSN 770) from February 2005 to July 2007. As Engineer, he deployed to the Western Pacific conducting several operations for the U.S. Seventh Fleet.
After a brief tour as the Submarine Operations Officer for Commander, Anti-submarine Forces Western Atlantic, he completed the Submarine Commander Course in November 2008. He then served as Executive Officer for the BLUE crew aboard USS Alaska (SSBN 732) from February 2009 until February 2011. During his tour, the ship completed crew certification and a successful first patrol following nuclear reactor refueling.
While serving on the Joint Staff of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, J-8 from March 2011 to December 2013, he managed the Naval Warfare portfolio for the Capabilities and Acquisition Division and served as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Director for Resources and Acquisition.
Cmdr. Lombardo has earned the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, The Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6 awards), The Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards) and various unit awards.Lombardo is currently serving as Commanding Officer, USS Springfield (SSN 761).
