Cmdr. William "Bill" Solomon III was commissioned through the Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate program at Officer Candidate School in 1993 after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. 

Following nuclear power and basic submarine training, he served as a Division Officer on USS Santa Fe (SSN 763) from 1995 to 1998, completing the ships first deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf.  From 2001 to 2004, Commander Solomon served as the Engineer Officer on USS Dallas (SSN 700).  During his time onboard, the ship completed two deployments to the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. In 2006 and 2007, Commander Solomon served as Executive Officer on USS Hartford (SSN 768).  He completed a 14 month Depot Modernization Period and follow-on at sea certifications. 

Cmdr. Solomon has served ashore as a Naval ROTC Instructor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he completed his Master of Engineering Degree in Management Engineering.  After his department head tour, he served as an instructor and department head at Naval Submarine School.

From 2008 to 2009, Commander Solomon served as the Deputy Executive Assistant to Commander Naval Forces Europe/Commander Joint Force Command Naples. In 2010, he completed the Senior Course at the NATO Defense College in Rome, Italy. Most recently, Commander Solomon served as the Deputy for Readiness at Submarine Squadron Four in Groton, Conn. 

Commander Solomon is authorized to wear the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation (five awards) and other personal and unit decorations.
