Commander, Submarine Group Two


 
 

Cmdr. Wes Schlauder was born in New London, Connecticut. He entered the United States Naval Academy from Richland, Washington, graduating in May 1991 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following completion of Nuclear Power Training and Submarine School, he reported to USS Albuquerque (SSN 706) in Groton, Conn. where he served in a variety of division Officer positions from 1993 to 1996. During this period the ship successfully completed three extended deployments to the Mediterranean Sea, the Western Atlantic and the North Atlantic.

In 1996, Cmdr. Schlauder was assigned to the staff of Commander, Submarine Development Squadron Five, Detachment Bravo in San Diego, California as the New Developments Material and Operations Officer.

After graduating from the Submarine Officer Advanced Course in June 1998, he reported to USS Connecticut (SSN 22), home ported in Groton, Conn., as the Combat Systems Officer. During his tour, Connecticut successfully completed all trials and evaluations required to enter operational service.

In June 2000, Cmdr. Schlauder reported to USS Seawolf (SSN 21) to serve as the Engineer Officer. During his tenure, Seawolf successfully completed all trials and evaluations required to enter operational service, and the ship’s inaugural deployment to the North Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea.

Following completion of his Department Head tour in November 2002, Cmdr. Schlauder was assigned to the staff of Commander, Submarine Squadron four as Squadron Engineer.

In January 2005, Cmdr. Schlauder was assigned to USS Tennessee (SSBN 734 Blue), home ported in Newport, Rhode Island where, in November 2007, he earned a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.
