Cmdr. Mongold entered the Navy in 1995 as a Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate (NUPOC). He graduated from Villanova University with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, and earned his Master’s degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University.

Cmdr. Mongold’s operational assignments include USS Hampton (SSN 767) as a division officer where he completed one CENTCOM and one EUCOM deployment. His Department Head tour was as Engineer Officer of USS BOISE (SSN 764).  During his tour, Boise completed a Depot Modernization Period, Combat Systems modernization, and deployment certification. As Executive Officer, he served aboard USS Rhode Island (SSBN 740) Gold and completed three strategic deterrent patrols.

Ashore, Cmdr. Mongold has served as a Submarine Tactics instructor, a Prospective Nuclear Engineering Officer instructor, the Submarine Squadron Eight Material Officer and most recently as the Executive Assistant to the Commander, Submarine Forces.

Commander Mongold has been privileged to serve on teams that were awarded the Navy Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Battle Efficiency ‘E’.  His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
