Cmdr. Spelker is a 1994 graduate of Baylor University and was commissioned at Officer Candidate School, Newport, R.I., in 1996.  He earned a Master’s degree from Old Dominion University.

After Nuclear Power School, Nuclear Prototype, and initial submarine training, he reported to USS ASHEVILLE (SSN 758) home ported in Pearl Harbor.  His next sea duty assignment was as Navigator onboard USS ALASKA (SSBN 732)(Blue) home-ported in Bangor, WA.  His last sea duty assignment was as Executive Officer onboard USS ALBANY (SSN 753) home ported in Norfolk, Va. 

Throughout his sea duty assignments, he completed three strategic deterrent patrols in the Pacific and three deployments to Central Command, Pacific Command, and European Command areas of responsibility.

He served ashore in assignments as an Action Officer on the Joint Staff (J-8), a Submarine Tactics Evaluator on the staff of Commander Naval Submarine Forces, and as an instructor at Trident Training Facility, Bangor, Wash. 

CDR Spelker is proud to have been a part of teams that have earned two Battle Efficiency 'E' awards and four Meritorious Unit Citations.
