Capt. Holland graduated from Montana State University in 1987 and was commissioned at Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. 

His sea tours include Division Officer assignments on board USS PINTADO (SSN 672), Weapons Officer onboard USS HENRY M. JACKSON (SSBN 730) (GOLD), Executive officer onboard USS DALLAS (SSN 700), and Commanding Officer of USS PROVIDENCE (SSN 719).  While on PROVIDENCE, the ship completed two deployments to the Western Pacific including a trip around the world as well as a visit to the North Pole.  The ship received the Submarine Squadron TWO Battle Efficiency “E” for 2008 as well as the ARLEIGH BURKE Trophy for the most improved unit in the Atlantic Fleet for 2007. 

Capt. Holland’s shore tours include time in Current Operations at U.S. Strategic Command as well as being the Submarine Department Head Detailer.  He was also the Congressional Liaison for Submarine Matters in the Navy’s Budget Office and served as the Post Command Deputy at Submarine Development Squadron TWELVE.  He was the Atlantic Force Prospective Commanding Officer Instructor on the most recent shore tour.

Capt. Holland’s personal recognition includes being a finalist for the VADM James B. Stockdale Leadership Award in 2008 and 2009.
