Command Master Chief(SS) Andrew Smith, a native of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, enlisted in the Navy’s Delayed Entry Program (DEP) in August 1982 and reported for active duty in June the following year. He completed Basic Recruit Training, Basic Enlisted Submarine School, and Torpedoman "A" School Training before joining the Fleet.

Smith’s at-sea tours include: USS Groton (SSN 694), USS Boston (SSN 703), USS La Jolla (SSN 701), USS Memphis (SSN 691), USS Pittsburgh (SSN 720), and his Chief of the Boat tours on USS Hartford (SSN 768) and USS Annapolis (SSN 760).

Smith’s shore tours include: Performance Monitoring Team, Commander, Submarine Group 5, Performance Monitoring Team, Commander, Submarine Squadron Two, Staff Torpedoman, Submarine Squadron Support Center New London, Command Master Chief, Commander Submarine Squadron 4, and Command Master Chief, Submarine Development Squadron 12.  He is currently assigned as Command Master Chief, Submarine Group Two.

Smith is a graduate of the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy and Command Master Chief course.

Smith's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (Four Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Four Awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Six Awards), Good Conduct Medal (Six Awards), Expert Pistol Marksmanship Medal with Silver "E", as well as various unit and campaign awards.
