Annapolis Changes Commanding Officers

Cmdr. John Gearhart relieved Capt. Michael Holland as Commanding Officer of USS Annapolis (SSN 760) in a short ceremony Friday, Nov. 20.

Submarine Development Squadron (DEVRON) 12 Chief of Staff, Capt. Dennis McKelvey presided over the change of command ceremony in the absence of the squadron commodore, Capt. Robert Burke.

Burke expressed his congratulations via naval message and noted that Gearhart is "the right man to pick up where Capt. Holland has left off" as he embarks "on the most challenging yet rewarding assignment the Navy has to offer - command at sea!"

Prior to taking command of Annapolis, Gearhart worked as the Submarine Reconnaissance Officer on the Joint Staff, J-3, in Washington, D.C.

In addition, Gearhart, a native of Stillwater, Ok., and a 1992 graduate of Oklahoma State University, served as Weapons Officer and Navigator aboard USS Norfolk (SSN 714) in Norfolk, Va., and as the Executive Officer on USS Cheyenne (SSN 773) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Holland, a 1987 graduate of Montana State University, returns to DEVRON 12 as deputy commander.
