Groton Prepares to Celebrate the Submarine Force’s 111th Birthday

GROTON, Conn. - Dust off your dancing shoes! The 111th Submarine Birthday Ball will be held at the MGM Grand Premier Ballroom at Foxwoods on Apr. 16.

Tickets are $45 per person and will be on sale beginning next month.  This year's theme is "Celebrating 20 years of Cold War Victory," and the guest speaker will be retired Vice Adm. Albert "Big Al" Konetzni.

For the third straight year, the ball will combine enlisted with officers, offering an excellent and fulfilling opportunity to socialize outside of work with peers. Bringing enlisted and officers together could attract more than 2,000 people to attend, which would make it the largest birthday ball within the submarine force.  Uniform for the evening is service dress blues or better.  Covers are not required.  In addition, commands are encouraged to participate in the traditional centerpiece contest.

Military personnel should contact their command's birthday ball representative to purchase tickets.  Others interested should contact Master Chief Electronics Technician Jon Smedley at 860-694-3980.
