CDR Charles M. Cohn

Commander Cohn is a native of Houston, Texas and a graduate of the United States Naval Academy class of 1994 where he earned a B.S. in Computer Science. Following graduation from USNA, he attended the Johns Hopkins University where he earned a M.S. in Computer Science in 1994. After completing his master’s program he completed Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida and Nuclear Prototype Training in Ballston Spa, New York. Additionally, CDR Cohn is a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College and is designated as a Joint Specialty Officer.
Commander Cohn’s sea tours include service as Executive Officer onboard USS SEAWOLF in Bremerton, Washington where he completed interfleet transfer. He served as Navigator/Operations Officer onboard USS COLUMBIA in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, earning the Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Squadron Three Navigation ‘N’ and Communications ‘C’ for operational excellence. During this tour he participated in tomahawk strike operations in support of the opening days of Operation Iraqi Freedom while deployed to the U.S. Fifth Fleet AOR. Additionally he successfully planned and executed an unprecedented surge deployment to the Western Pacific. His first sea tour was aboard USS CHARLOTTE in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where he served as Damage Control Assistant and Reactor Controls Assistant. During his tour on CHARLOTTE he completed her maiden Western Pacific deployment where she earned the Navy Unit Commendation.
Commander Cohn has served ashore as the Deputy Commander for Readiness on the staff of Submarine Squadron 16, as Ballistic Missile Defense and Undersea Warfare Manpower Acquisitions Officer on the OPNAV N1 staff, as an action officer on the J3 staff of US SOUTHERN COMMAND in Miami, Florida and as a Nuclear Power Officer Recruiter for Navy Recruiting Region West.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (four awards) and the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards) as well as many campaign and unit awards.
