Enterprise Dynamic Access Control (EDAC)

PDF Version

The U.S. Navy seeks to commercialize U.S. Patents 8290979 (Software architecture for access control based on hierarchical characteristics) and 8918423 (Enterprise dynamic access control system and method using an object selection profile).

The Technology

Access control is the process that evaluates access to resources such as software applications, web services, and facility entry. The Enterprise Dynamic Access Control (EDAC) is a unique role-based access control (RBAC) that automates the complexities and labor-intensive tasks of assigning users to resources. Unlike other RBAC systems, the EDAC’s powerful role-assignment technology accounts for corporate, environmental, and user-profile attribute changes on a real-time basis to determine resource access. EDAC exceeds specifications set forth by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) under Role-Based Control Standard ANSI INCITS 359-2004.

Key Benefits

  • Easy scalability to meet customer growth
  • Easy cross-domain capability
  • Easy role engineering
  • Easy access control audits for metric/policy purposes
  • Real-time evaluation of corporate, user profile, and environmental changes
  • Customizable business condition(s)
  • Web service modular component-based and provisioning protocol capable
  • Development Status

  • U.S. Patents 8290979 and 8918423
  • Total R&D: $890K
  • DoD 5000 Series Technology Readiness Level 7: System prototype demonstration in an operational environment
  • Developed to the point  where market applications become profitable for private sector
  • Funded and designed by Commander U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMPACFLT)
  • SSC Pacific sponsored intellectual property
