The Electromagnetics and Advanced Technology Division (Code 55400) provides physical-layer applied research and development expertise to the joint and coalition warfighter and National agencies in support of the full-spectrum of C4ISR missions.

Additional Capabilities

Trusted technical agents for DARPA, DHS, ONR, NAVSEA, PEO-C4I and Space, SPAWAR and other government agencies across our business areas.

Personnel include ~105 degreed technical professionals, ~ 70 % of whom hold advanced degrees in Engineering, Physics, and Mathematics and ~ 40% of whom hold higher security clearances. The Division has partnerships with technical investigators from across SSC Pacific, the DoD, and academia.

Facilities include 16,000 sq-ft of indoor laboratories for prototyping and testing RF, fiber optics, free-space optics, antenna performance, radio communications, and composite materials, Outdoor test ranges include a hi-voltage test facility, antenna pattern range, bounded-wave simulator, tapered anechoic chamber, test range relatively free from electromagnetic noise with ten outdoor signal paths (up to ½ mile) on the rim of a 150-ft canyon adjacent to open ocean, optical and RF field testing in marine and littoral environments, and management of ISTEF, an electro-optical observatory engaged in developing and demonstrating approaches critical to theater and strategic missiles defense.

Computational and design teams have access to the SSC Pacific High-Performance Computing facility. Hardware Design software suites include Beam-Prop, Optsim, HFSS, CST Microwave Studio, NEC-BSC, COSAM, CLASS.
