The SPAWAR Atlantic Medical Systems consists of SNAP Automated Medical System (SAMS). Under the direction of the Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) meetings were convened in 1985 to ascertain the need for a computerized system. As a result of these meetings, in 1986 the prototype for SAMS I was completed. Over the years the program has undergone numerous revisions to keep abreast of the functional and operational needs of the fleet.
SAMS reduces the administrative workload, enhances the credibility, standardization, and quality of health care documentation in the medical environment. SAMS objectives are as follows:
- To improve medical care of the crew by more efficient use of resources.
- To provide administrative support for patient encounter episodes.
- To support surveillance analysis in operational environments.
- To monitor the ship's medical support capability.
- To support the management of medical supplies.
- To improve the efficiency and accuracy of radiation health protections programs.
SPAWAR Atlantic Medical Systems are currently operational at over 1300 sites???. Our technology makes it easier to track medical records for our troops.
Features

- immunizations (meets DOD tracking requirements, DEERS is used as a repository)
- visual, hearing and dental reports
- laboratory results
- sexually transmitted diseases
- women's health data
The Master Tickler module also gives the user the ability to import and export medical history from other sources. To keep abreast of the current as well as past events, the user can create a multitude of reports. Reports can be ordered by individual, department/division, or command wide.
