FORCM (SEAL) Michael L. Magaraci, USN
FORCM Michael L. Magaraci is from Altoona, Pa. He enlisted in the United States Navy following graduation from the Florida Institute of Technology in Jensen Beach, Fla. in 1984. He graduated with Basic Underwater Demolition / SEAL Class 155 as the class Honor Man in December 1988.
FORCM Magaraci’s operational assignments have included duty aboard the USS Pharris (FF 1094) at Naval Operations Base Norfolk, Va. He served as the Ship’s Corpsman from 1986 to 1988 deploying to the North Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, and South America.
He also served at SEAL Team EIGHT at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Va. from 1988 to 1993, where he served in four platoons making multiple deployments and served as a platoon Leading Petty Officer. Additionally, he deployed for eight and a half months aboard the USS Trenton (LPD 14) in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
FORCM Magaraci checked onboard Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG) in Virginia Beach, Va. where he served from 1993 to 2007. He served eight years in Tactical Development and Evaluation Squadron FOUR; three of those years as a Boat Crew Leader, two years in the Operations Department as the Operations Senior Enlisted Advisor (SEA), and four years at Tactical Development and Evaluation Squadron ONE as the very first Command Master Chief (CMDCM). He attended Independent Duty Corpsman School while assigned at NSWDG where he graduated with Distinction.
FORCM Magaraci’s fifth consecutive sea tour was at SEAL Team TEN at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Va., where he served as the CMDCM from 2007 to 2009. While at SEAL Team TEN he conducted two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served as the Task Force 17 SEA as well as the Task Force South SEA during his time in Iraq completing fifteen operational deployments during the course of his career.
Following his tour at SEAL Team TEN, Master Chief Magaraci was assigned to the Naval Special Warfare Center in Coronado, Calif. as the CMDCM from 2009-2011. During his tour at NSW Center, he pushed 2200 Basic Students and 6,000 advanced students through multiple training venues and for the first time in the history of NSW met authorizations for enlisted SEAL manning.
Master Chief Magaraci served his fourth CMDCM tour from 2011-2013 at the NSWDG, where he lead 1800 people and was involved in multiple National Command Authority directed operations.
Force Master Chief Magaraci’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (four awards, one with Valor), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal (three awards, one with Valor), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Valor, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards) , Combat Action Ribbon (three awards), Presidential Unit Citation (five awards) and numerous other campaign and service awards.
Master Chief Magaraci became the 7th Force Master Chief of Naval Special Warfare on Sept. 10, 2013.
