LCDR Doss graduated Cum Laude from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in May 1997. During his final two years in college, he was accepted into the Civil Engineer Corps Collegiate Commissioning Program. After graduation from college, he reported to Officer Candidate School (OCS) and was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve on September 12, 1997.

LCDR Doss's initial assignment was as an Activity Civil Engineer at Public Works Center (PWC) Guam from October 1997 until January 1998. His next duty station was at Civil Engineer Corps Officer School (CECOS) in Port Hueneme, CA from which he graduated in April 1998. Upon graduation from CECOS, he returned to PWC Guam to be assigned as a Facilities Support Contracts Manager for 15 months and then Engineering Division Action Officer for his final 9 months. Next, LCDR Doss reported to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion THREE from May 2000 until April 2002, where he was assigned as Engineering Officer, Company Commander, and Detachment Officer in Charge (OIC). As Detachment OIC, he deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to support construction of the Terrorist Detainee Camp in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. Upon completion of two deployments, he reported to THIRTY-FIRST Seabee Readiness Group in June 2002 and was assigned as the Assistant Operations/Embark Officer and Facilities Officer. Next, he attended graduate school at the University of Florida where he earned a Masters of Engineering in Civil Engineering. After grad school, he was the Public Works Officer at Navy Information Operations Command Sugar Grove, WV with additional duties as an AROICC assigned to ROICC Peninsula, Yorktown, VA. Following his PWO tour, he was assigned to be the Assistant Community Manager for the Civil Engineer Corps at the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Millington, TN. He is currently assigned as the Executive Officer for Naval Mobile Construction Battalion THREE.

LCDR Doss is a qualified Seabee Combat Warfare Officer, a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps, and a registered Professional engineer in the State of Alabama. His personal awards include the metorious Service Medal, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps commendation Medal (two awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
