A native of Bogalusa, LA, Commander Johnston received both his commission and Bachelors of Science in History in May of 1997 upon graduation from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD. He also received his Masters in Business Administration in Financial Management from Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA in June of 2008.
Commander Johnston’s operational assignments include tours as Disbursing/Sales Officer aboard USS VANDEGRIFT (FFG-48) from 1998 to 2000, Surface Company Delta OIC at Navy Cargo Handling Battalion NINE from 2002 to 2003, Training Officer at Navy Cargo Handling Battalion ONE from 2003-2006, and Operations Support Officer at First Navy Expeditionary Logistics Regiment from 2010 to 2013.
His assignments ashore include tours as Supply Officer at Surface Warfare Officers School Command, Operations and Maintenance Navy Reserve Budget Director at Navy Reserve Forces Command and as the Director of Logistics and Expeditionary Support at Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group.
Personal military decorations include the Navy Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards). He also earned the Surface Warfare Supply Corps Warfare Qualification. His professional achievements include certification as a Defense Financial Manager and a subspecialty code in Financial Management.
