Command Master Chief
CMDCM (SCW/EXW) James D. Sweet
Master Chief Sweet was born in Ware, Mass., and raised in Warren, Mass., where he attended Quaboug Regional High School, graduating in 1984. He enlisted in the Navy, August 1984. He attended recruit training at Recruit Training Center, Orlando, Fla., and Equipment Operator “A” School at Naval Construction Training Center, Gulfport, Miss.
His first assignment was to CBU 402 Pensacola, Fla., for duty as an equipment operator for multiple projects. He transferred shortly thereafter to CBU 424, Washington, DC, where he assisted in the command’s commissioning and worked as dispatcher and crewmember for multiple projects. Upon completing this assignment, he was reassigned to NMCB ONE, where he made three deployments to Spain, Guam and Sicily. He served in various Alfa Company positions. He then transferred to Public Works, Little Creek, Va., where he was assigned as Base License Examiner/Accident Investigator. Following this assignment, he transferred to NMCB SEVENTY FOUR where he deployed to Puerto Rico, Okinawa, and numerous Detachment sites. He served in many position from Crew Leader to Detachment OIC. He transferred to CBU 427 serving as Alfa 6. While there, he managed all the NCF CESE assigned to the CBU and Battalion Detachments rotating through the CBU. He then went to ACB TWO and was assigned as A3, C3, and C5. He deployed to Korea as Operations Chief for ECLAS (M) as well as Guantanamo Bay as Detachment OIC to assist the on-site Battalion with the completion of the Detention Cell Construction Project. Upon completing this assignment, he rotated to 20th Seabee Readiness Group where he served as R33 Embark Chief until transferring to NMCB SEVEN were he was assigned tasks as; Senior Enlisted Leader for Exercise TALON VISION and Operations Chief for the Battalion (S3C). His next assignment was as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the Center for Seabees and Facilities Engineering Detachment Equipment Operator and Engineering Aide “A” School, Fort Leonard Wood. His previous assignment was as Command Master Chief, Navy Cargo Handling Battalion ONE. He is currently the Command Master Chief for Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group, Williamsburg, Va.
Master Chief Sweet is Seabee Combat Warfare and Expeditionary Warfare qualified and is authorized to wear the following awards: Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5th awards), Army Achievement Medal (2nd award) Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Battle “E”, Good Conduct Medal (7th awards), National Defense Services Medal (2nd awards), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (8th awards), Expert Rifle Medal and Marksman Pistol Ribbon.
