Commander Mark Schram is a native of Lansing, Michigan and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the university of San Diego in September 1992. He earned his masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2003.

Commander Schram began his naval career as Seamen Recruit at Naval Recruit Training Center Orlando in July 1983. His first sea duty tour following Electronic Warfare Specialist "A" school was in USS LEFTEICH (DD 984) where he attained the rank of EW2. Following his commissioning through the BOOST and NROTC programs, he serves as the Communications Officer and Gunnery/Ordnance Officer in USS INGERSOLL (DD 990). His next tour was as the Combat Systems Officer in USS CURTS, followed by Operations Officer in USS VALLEY FORGE (CG 50). CDR Schram served as Executive Officer (XO) afloat in USS JARRETT (FFG 33).

Commander Schram's shore duty assignments include serving as the Security and ADMIN Officer on the staff of COMSTRIKFORSOUTH in Naples, Italy and as a student at the Naval War College in Newport, RI. Additionally, he was the Air, Surface, and Land Attack Warfare Training Officer, Training Readiness and Innovations Officer and Speechwriter on the staff of COMNAVSURFOR. In his last shore assignment, Commander Schram was the Maritime Homeland Defense, Surface Warfare (operations Directorate) and Ballistic Missile Defense Officer on the staff of COMTHRIDFLT.

Commander Schram has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (fifth award), and the Navy Good Conduct Medal.
