CAPT Chris Peterschmidt

Captain Chris Peterschmidt

CAPT Peterschmidt was born in Glendale, California. He received his commission from the Marquette University NROTC program following graduation in 1987.

CAPT Peterschmidt’s first sea assignments were serving as Main Propulsion Assistant on USS YORKTOWN (CG 48) and Chief Engineer on USS VELLA GULF (CG 72).

In October 2000, then LCDR Peterschmidt was serving as Executive Officer onboard USS COLE (DDG 67) when it was attacked by terrorists. He played an important role in leading the damage control efforts and treatment of the wounded. Following the attacks of September 11th 2001 CAPT Peterschmidt deployed as the Future Operations Officer of the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group Flag Staff which subsequently took part in Operation Enduring Freedom in October 2001.

From April 2006 to November 2007, CAPT Peterschmidt served as Commanding Officer, USS PINCKNEY (DDG 91).

CAPT Peterschmidt’s ashore staff assignments have included serving on the OPNAV staff (Surface Warfare) in Washington DC as Flag Aide and in the Air Defense Directorate. He also served on the staff of Commander, Naval Surface Forces Atlantic as Deputy N7 (Training) and N7, Commander, THIRD Fleet staff as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations (N3), and his latest tour as Deputy Commander, Littoral Combat Ship Squadron ONE.

CAPT Peterschmidt holds a M.S. in Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School and an M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, in addition to the B.S. in Physics he received at Marquette University.

He is a recipient of various unit, campaign, combat action and personal awards.
