Chain of Command



           Commander Eric W. Rasch is a native of Buffalo, New York. He enlisted in the Navy in 1989 as an Intelligence Specialist and was commissioned via the Seaman to Admiral Program in 1996. His enlisted assignments include tours of duty at the Fleet Ocean Surveillance Information Faculty, Cubi Point, Republic of the Philippines, USS RANGER (CV 61), USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63), and the Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center, Dam Neck, VA. He is a 2003 graduate of the University of San Diego and a 2008 Naval War College graduate. In addition to qualification as a Surface Warfare Officer, Commander Rasch holds designation as a Naval Operational Planner.

At Sea, Commander Rasch has served as Damage Control Assistant in USS BENFOLD (DDG 65), on the staff of Commander, Destroyer Squadron THREE ONE as Training and Readiness Officer and Maritime Interception Operations Officer and completed Department Head assignments as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer in USS HOPPER (DDG 70). From 2010 to 2012, he served as Executive Officer in USS SAMPSON (DDG 102) during which time SAMPSON was awarded consecutive Retention Excellence Awards, the 2011 SPOKANE Trophy, and was selected as the 2010 and 2011 Commander, Destroyer Squadron TWO THREE Battle Effectiveness Award winner.

Ashore, Commander Rasch’s assignments include Joint Counter Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device Composite Squadron ONE (JCCS-1) and Electronic Warfare Officer/Non-Lethal Fires Planner on the staff of Commander, 504th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, Tal’Afar, Iraq during ground combat operations in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, Administrative Department Head at Navy Operational Support Center North Island, California, Executive Officer of Training Support Center, San Diego, California and Deputy Assistant Chief Of Staff for C5I for Commander, Naval Surface Force U.S. Pacific Fleet. He assumed his current duties as Executive Officer of Coastal Riverine Squadron THREE in October 2014.

Commander Rasch’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6 awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards) as well as various Joint, Army, Navy, and Coast Guard unit awards and citations.
