Navy Reservists support both Maritime Civil Affairs (MCA) and Security Force Assistance (SFA) missions and are fully integrated. Following the same training pipeline as the active component, Navy Reservists are deployed around the world. Navy Reservists typically deploy as an all Navy Reserve team but can be assimilated into a combined AC/RC team. Navy Reservists assigned to MCA are deployed for six months. Those Navy Reservists attached to SFA are involved in 3-4 week military-to-military training missions.
Currently MCAST has 165 Navy Reserve billets in 7 detachments:
- San Jose, CA
- San Diego, CA
- Yorktown/Norfolk, VA
- Fort Dix, NJ
- Long Island, NY
MCAST also provides the training and mission opportunities for enlisted Navy Reservists to earn the Expeditionary Warfare pin.
