CDR Ian Kerr

Executive Officer, MCAST Command 


Commander Ian Kerr is a graduate of the University of Texas and is a YG 89 Surface Warfare Officer.

Commander Kerr completed his initial division officer tour aboard USS TOWERS (DDG 9) homeported in Yokosuka, Japan as Communications Officer and in 1991 reported aboard USS MOBILE BAY (CG 53) also homeported in Yokosuka as Administrative and Ordnance Officer.

Moving to Dahlgren, Va., Commander Kerr then served as an instructor in the Prospective Commanding Officer and Executive Officer courses of instruction at the Aegis Training Center from 1993 to 1995.

Upon completion of Department Head School, he went back to sea as Combat Systems Officer aboard USS McCLUSKEY (FFG 41) homeported in San Diego, Calif. from 1996 to 1998 and then pre-commissioned USS PORTER (DDG 78) as Combat Systems Officer in Norfolk, Va.  Following his department head tours, he served as Tomahawk and Assistant Surface Operations Officer on the staff of Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group EIGHT embarked in USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) in Norfolk, Va.  Upon completion, Commander Kerr pre-commissioned USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) as Auxiliaries Officer and then served on the staff of Carrier Strike Group TWELVE embarked in USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) as the N4.

In 2006, Commander Kerr joined the Theater ASW staff at CTF-84 and then completed an IA with CENTCOM from 2008 to 2009.  Upon completion, he became the Surface Warfare department head at Tactical Training Group Atlantic from 2009 to 2011.
