As a native of Grandville, Michigan, Lieutenant Commander Wainwright received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Toledo in 2001. He attended Officer Candidate School at Pensacola, Florida and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Civil Engineer Corps in October 2001.
After completion of CEC Officer Basic School, he reported to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina where he served as the Assistant Public Works Officer from 2002 to 2004. During his second tour at Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island, he served as the Assistant Resident Officer In Charge of Construction from 2004 to 2006. The tour was highlighted by managing a $15M Bachelor Enlisted Quarters new construction project from start to finish.
From 2006 to 2008, he dutifully performed a myriad of positions for Naval Mobile Construction Battalion FIVE in Port Hueneme, California. While deployed to Kuwait, he served independently as the Officer in Charge of Detail Afghanistan Two and as the Assistant Operations Officer. During the pacific deployment, he served as Detail San Clemente Island Officer in Charge and as the Battalion Convoy Security Element Officer in Charge.
After his Battalion tour, LCDR Wainwright attended the University of Florida where he completed a concurrent degree program, receiving a Master of Science in Coastal Engineering and a Master of Business Administration. He then reported to the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Command in Panama City, Florida where he became qualified as a Marine Engineer Dive Officer in 2010.
Following dive school, LCDR Wainwright reported to the Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center, East Coast Detachment where he served as the Waterfront Inspection Program Manager from 2010 to 2012. In May 2012, he transitioned from the Washington Navy Yard to the Pentagon where he performed as the Military Aide to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations & Environment. Following his Pentagon tour, LCDR Wainwright assumed command of Underwater Construction Team ONE in June 2014.
He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan, and is Seabee Combat Warfare and Marine Engineer Dive Officer qualified. He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with gold star and the Navy Achievement Medal with gold star.
