 Naval Mobile Construction Battalion SEVENTY-FOUR

As the result of budget cutting efforts across the Department of Defense, the Navy directed the decommissioning of three reserve Seabee Battalions, one active Seabee Battalion, and a reserve Seabee Regiment in 2014. Naval Mobile Construction Battalions (NMCBs) 17, 26, 28 and 74 along with the 9th Naval Construction Regiment (NCR) were decommissioned at the conclusion of fiscal year 2014. These units trace their history back to World War II, and have most recently made deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Their functions have been transferred to other Seabee units. Despite these reductions, the Seabees remain a vital component of the Navy's Global Force for Good as demonstrated by the fact that Seabees are currently contributing globally to military operations at the tactical, operational and strategic levels by providing support across the full range of military operations on five continents.
