Lt. Cmdr. Robert Kleinman reported to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5 as the Executive Officer in May 2014.
Kleinman was born and raised in Indianapolis. He graduated from Tulane University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2002 and was commissioned an ensign in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps later that year after attending Navy Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Fla. He holds a masters degree in civil engineering from the University of Hawaii.
Within the Naval Construction Force, Kleinman has served with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3 as the Headquarters Company Commander, Communications Officer and Civic Action Team Palau Officer-in-Charge; and with the 30th Naval Construction Regiment as the Continental U.S. and Assistant Operations Officer. During those tours, he deployed to Okinawa, Palau and Afghanistan.
Kleinmans facilities and project management assignments ashore include tours at Naval Station Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and Naval Station Great Lakes, Ill., serving as 1st Lieutenant, Ford Island Liaison, Production Officer and Facilities Engineering and Acquisition Division Director.
Lieutenant Commander Kleinman is a registered professional engineer in the state of Hawaii, a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer, and a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various campaign, unit and service awards.
