Port Hueneme (pronounced "Wy-nee'mee") is a seaside community in Ventura County, California. Port Hueneme is located 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles and 40 miles south of Santa Barbara. The City's name derives from a Chumash word (Wene'mu) that means "resting place". Neighboring communities include Oxnard, Ventura, and Camarillo. Offering beach-style living, Port Hueneme features long sandy beaches and lush agricultural fields. Crimes per capita are among the lowest in the county.
The Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) at Port Hueneme is home to the Pacific "Seabees. The Seabees are highly skilled contingency construction forces. Other NCBC tenants include the Naval Facilities Engineering Services Center and the Naval Surface Warfare Center.
